Big Sur Marathon Training — Week 8 02/19/12

It’s Sunday, which for me is rest day!

This week was a tough week of marathon training. After being in denial for the past couple weeks, I have come to grips with the fact that I have shin splits in my left leg. I’ve never had shin splits before, so I wasn’t sure what was happening. It feels as though I’ve been hit in the leg with a softball!

Thanks to a quick google search there was no doubt that the pain was indeed shin splits. So, I took two days off this week and didn’t run at all, which was very hard for me. However, it seemed to help. The pain has subsided thanks to lots of icing and some rest. I also purchased a new pair of running shoes. I knew I needed a new pair, but I was having a hard time coughing up $100+, but when I found out my shoes could be contributing to my pain I knew it was time to make a dent in my bank account!

Aren’t they pretty?!

Yesterday, I ran 15 miles. It was little more difficult than I would have liked, but I attribute that to skipping my weekday runs. I pushed through and completed the 15 with an average pace of 9:32. Not a bad view!

Now, we are off to take the pup for a hike (I can’t just lay around!), run some errands, a 6th birthday bowling party, and grocery shopping!

Have you had any running injuries? Have you had shin splits? If so, how did you deal with them?
